How Do You Clean Render

There are so many different brands of render available in the UK, you may ask how do you clean render on my home or office building.

• Weber
• Parex
• Sika

Apart from Sto Rend – all types of through coloured renders which have become infested with organic matter such as cyanobacteria, mould, moss and lichens need cleaning the same way.

A process known as Soft Washing is the answer to cleaning dirty render.

Soft Washing uses chemicals rather than pressure to treat and clean the organic matter off. By carefully mixing sodium hypochlorite (bleach) at between 2% -4% strength and combining it with greenwash which has anti-microbial additives in it. The softwash mixture when diluted with water and sprayed onto the renders surface at very low pressure, will kill off all organic matter.

The end result, is very clean and sanitised render.

When considering using other methods such as pressure washing to clean your render, you must ensure little or no pressure is used. Because high pressure is likely to cause irreversible damage to the render. Cold water pressure washing will only remove visible organic matter growth, leaving behind spores which will quickly strive to re grow thicker than before.

Different types of organic matter will be removed by Soft Washing, Trentophilia which can be seen as red or orange swathes across the rendered walls will soon disappear when you soft wash the surface. As will all other types of infestation.

When considering using an outside tradesman or contractor you are best asking them, how do you clean render?

You don’t want an uneducated person using the wrong type of equipment such as a pressure washer.
