How to Clean Render on a House

The easy way to clean off mould, mosses aka Cyanobacteria from the render on your home is to use a bleach solution to Soft Wash it off. Simply spray onto the surface from a distance of 6 feet and hey presto! the render will be left clean inside 20 minutes, providing that the temperature is over 5°C and the correct strength of bleach is used, which is normally about 2% and works best when applied correctly.

3 Steps to Clean Render:

Simply mix with water and spray onto the surfaces.

Can You Use Bleach on Render?

Professional home exterior cleaners have been using Sodium Hypochlorite aka bleach on exterior walls for many years, especially on render, there is nothing out there better or cheaper. You can mix regular bleach with water at a 1:1 ratio and spray in onto the surface using a simple pump-up sprayer.

This will give you a 2.5% strength for your house render cleaning mix. For stained render, it is better to mix in Green Wash which has been formulated to mix with bleach.

Compared to pressure washing which can easily damage the render, using bleach will ensure it stays cleaner 4-6 times longer.

Do not let the bleach solution dry on other surfaces such as glass, this will prove very difficult to remove, keep the glass wet at all times.

Plants will be harmed by the bleach unless you keep them wet and use Plant Wash which will feed the aerobic bacteria in the roots and keep the plant healthy.

The original colour of the render will quickly return once all of the mould spores have been killed off. Rinse well with plenty of water or use a Final Wash solution to neutralise the bleach, leaving all surfaces safe for Children & Pets

Should you wish to start your own Soft Washing business, the world’s leading render cleaning equipment can be found at SoftWash Systems here in the UK – this type of equipment uses bleach aka Sodium Hypochlorite and other soaps to make the cleaning process safer and of course easier.

Ideally use regularly – every 3 to 4 months on path ways, patios and drives to keep them free from weeds or moulds.

P.S. Cleaning Render Before Painting

Render should NOT be painted, kept clean, render will look wonderful year round. Often when render is painted, mould starts to grow on the INSIDE of your home. This is because the render needs to ‘breathe’ and paint effectively seals the render’s surface, preventing it from breathing and stopping moisture from escaping.
