A great question which Purple Rhino has been asked by facilities managers many times is how do you restore powder coatings on window frames and other surfaces.

Many years ago Darran Smith developed the now famous Purple Rhino Three Step System to restore faded powder coated window frames.

The Purple Rhino Three Step System

When you notice the window frames and doors look dull or washed out on your commercial building. You will search Google to find out how do you restore powder coatings.

Watching Youtube videos on window frame restoration is a great idea. You will quickly see for yourself that the work involved is labour intensive and requires a keen eye for detail.

The window frame colour has become faded to a white and often chalky to the touch substance. Removing this damaged top layer very carefully is the first step in the restoration process.

Very carefully apply the first step of the Purple Rhino Three Step System to a white non scratch pad. Using circular and overlapping rubbing techniques will take away the damaged top coating.

The damaged top coating is usually only about eight microns thick. By removing it, underneath you will see the original colour.

Using Step two on the now restored powder coated finish, will leave it perfectly clean. Simply wipe over the product using a fresh microfiber towel. Allowing to dry thoroughly before moving on.

Step Three is where the original colour of the powder coating becomes protected from harsh weather conditions and UV damage.

Looking after your window frames moving forward.

Ensure surfaces have a regular maintenance plan in place. This means cleaning the windows free from dirt, spiders webs and other contaminants on a schedule basis.

Should your window cleaners be using volatile substances such as purified water, it is better to apply additional coatings periodically.
