How to clean your render?

Depending on the structure of the building and brand of render you want to clean.You can reach and clean the render using either high reach carbon fibre telescopic poles or perhaps specialised softwashing equipment.

1. Water fed pole method

   Prepare the Render Cleaning Machine with the right amount of render cleaning solution. Connect the water fed pole to the Render Cleaning Machine, then start brushing the solution onto the rendered wall from the bottom and work your way up to the top. Allowing the render cleaning solution to dwell for a short time of about fifteen minutes and then rinse with clean fresh water. You should always wear appropriate PPE when carrying out render cleaning activities.

2. Using a softwashing equipment

   This technique can be used where access is difficult or high level hard to reach surfaces. You may need to use an elevated work platform (cherry picker) which should be operated by a competent person. The low pressure softwashing systems pumps will deliver an even flow of softwashing mixture to the required areas. Some carbon staining on the render may need additional equipment such as a low pressure steam cleaner to remove them effectively. How to Clean Render

There are many different types of render used for building projects. It is essential that when render cleaning projects are being considered, the correct cleaning and treating methods be used.

A classic mistake many building owners or managers make is to first go onto the render manufacturers website to find out how to clean. With all due respect, the manufacturers have no clue how to clean their own products.

For example the Sto brand recommends using their product to apply and use a pressure washer at low pressure to clean. It does not work and most importantly they CANNOT advise what water flow rate should be coming through the low-pressure washer.

Why is flow rate important?

Well let’s say the pressure washer is 100 BAR at 10 litres per min, there will hardly be any water hitting the rendered surfaces, now let’s increase the water flow to 30 litres per minute but keep the pressure at 100 BAR and WOW you will have a ton of water hitting the Sto rend causing costly to repair the damaged surface. It’s a bit like a motorbike and a 40-ton lorry driving at 30 mph into a wall, one will cause little damage and one will go right through the wall – therefore water flow IS an Important factor to consider when using a pressure washer.

Low Pressure is ALWAYS best for any type of render cleaning project, SoftWashing uses specialised bio-degradable chemicals to treat and kill organic matter spores at the root. This ensures that when used for render cleaning, Softwashing will last four to six times longer than pressure washing would.
