Current Façade Condition & Problems

The main façade material is made predominantly of Stone. The surfaces have become polluted with organic matter and atmospheric pollutants running down.

Organic

Algae, Lichen’s and Moss thrive best in damp, dark environments so most of the worse organic growth on facades will tend to be visible on the darker north and east elevations of a building. Organic growth can occur in many shapes, sizes and colours but is most commonly seen as a green or black hue across large sections of façade. There are often a number of key geographical, environmental and maintenance factors that will increase the likelihood of growth.

Atmospheric

Building facades located near busy roads or situated within towns and cities are particularly vulnerable to deposits from traffic pollutants. It is impossible to avoid these airborne particles of dirt which are carried in the atmosphere and attach themselves to building facades.
