Faded Colour Restoration to Powder Coated Aluminium Surfaces

Great Western House – Birkenhead

Great Western House is the headquarters for the Child Support Agency which is located in Birkenhead. The CSA lease the building and have obligations to ensure that the building is kept in good condition throughout the rental period. It was noticed that all red powder coated surfaces on the window frames, guttering and downpipes were fading.

Requirement

The client required the window frames and other powder coated surfaces should either be renewed or restored as soon as possible and without causing too much stress to employees working inside the offices

After tests and further investigations were carried out by Purple Rhino it was discovered that the coloured powder coated surfaces were UV damaged and this had caused the colour to fade severely from the original red colour when the building was new.

Solution

Purple Rhino carried out some free test sample areas around different elevations of the building and using the three step process developed by us we were able to return the red powder coated surfaces back to as new condition, furthermore we applied a UV protectant to ensure the sun’s harmful rays would not discolour the framework further for a long period of time.

Next came the careful planning of how we would reach and restore all faded powder coated surfaces to all elevations of this very large building. Using specialist access platforms was the most cost effective and unobtrusive method. Careful planning as to which areas would be restored each day ensured a very smooth operation with very minimal disruption to the people who work inside the building.

Four weeks later and the buildings faded powder coated window frames, gutters and downpipes were all looking as good as new.

Restoration of faded red colour to powder coated aluminium and steel surfaces has taken Purple Rhino many years to perfect. The three step system we developed a number of years ago outlasts all competitors products available on the market. Our research to source the very best products took us half way around the world and after many trials were conducted we opted for a product which had been tested to DIN 11341, Xenon Testing Standards

  • We would confirm Purple Rhino undertook the cleaning of ten large internal courtyard areas at the above hospital. As may be expected with hospital work complications did arise particularly from The Trust who had concerns with regards to patients in individual wards all of which were adjacent to the working areas. Not withstanding these problems Purple Rhino worked quickly and diligently with all parties so as to mitigate the issues and were able to complete in a timely and expeditious manner. All parties, including The Trust, were most appreciative with the quality of the completed works. In view of these experiences with Purple Rhino, we would not hesitate to recommend them for any future works relating to cleaning facades.
